Director's statement

Photographer/writer Karel Hamm and i decided in 2009 that we wanted towork together on a project again, after a 15 year interlude... We used to shootmusic videos for MTV and Super Channel together in the 90's. Karel had a great story that we translated into a script. Given the nature of thestory, we decided to dedicate this movie to the battle against HIV, aids andprejudice surrounding the subject.

It took us less than three months toarrange a star cast, professional crew and the equipment needed - mostly free ofcharge thanks to the cooperation and generous gifts from several companies inthe field of flm production. The choice of actress Aukje van Ginneken and relatively unexperiencednewcomer Erik Rooseboom proofed to be a perfect match of characters.

I've finished editing Vrije Val in april 2010 and have submitted the movie to over 20 filmfestivals worldwide. A very exciting way of (trying to) communicating our message to a large audience.

Vrije Val is a short silent movie, with no spoken word, but packed with music, emotions and beautiful imagery. It addresses the sensitive issues of HIV, AIDS and prejudice in a non-provocative and accessible way. Vrije Val offers an ideal conversation piece with great educational value when discussing HIV and AIDS with people coming to age.

All profit of this short movie benefts the battle against HIV and AIDS. All cast, crew, locations and facilities have offered their time, love, money and servicesfree of charge.
